The worst thing about being on a diet, or healthy eating
plan as I like to refer to it, is having to cut out my sweet treats.
Cakes. Biscuits. Chocolate. Sigh.
I have a massive sweet tooth, which is probably (definitely) the major cause of my
excess lbs and one of the reason why I decided to lose some weight.
Well that and my body resembling
a train wreck after growing and giving birth to 2 babies in the space of 3
years and well and truly indulging in the whole ‘eating for two’ thing!
Either way, knowing that my most favourite treats were not
going to help me on my quest to get my pre-baby body back was gutting.
Then, while indulging in my favourite past time (browsing Instagram) I came across a
brand which kept cropping up, tagged in photos of mouth-watering looking sweet
treats and cakes.
“If I can’t eat them I’ll at least salivate over them” I thought
as I clicked the link through to their account. And that’s how I became
acquainted with The Skinny Bakery.
And yes, the clue as to why they are my new best friends is
in their name.
The Skinny Bakery was founded in 2013 by passionate home
baker Mariella Forte and has a USP which is very appealing to dieters and the
health conscious alike.
All of their products feature less calories, less sugar and
less fat than traditional cakes and biscuits yet they somehow manage to retain
all of the deliciousness of their full-fat cousins.
From their humble beginnings they now boast and impressive
and expansive array of products from the cutest little gingerbread men, to mouth-watering
meringue cookies, decadent and rich chocolate brownies, to scrummy flapjacks.
Plus everything in-between
too!
Lovingly made to the highest of standards and packaged in
super cute little pots which display the delicious cakes within these guilt
free treats are made with alternative ingredients such as beetroot, sweet
potato, quark and tofu and typically contain only 30-40 calories per piece.
Oh and one of the best things about The Skinny Bakery is
that they are constantly creating and launching new products so there is always
a brand new delicious treat to tantalise your tastebuds!
My latest haul of goodies contains several of these new
launches in the form of their Choc-Nut Pearls, Orange Cheesecake Pearls and
Mocha Pearls as well as some old time faves such as their Skinny Lemon Pearls,
Skinny Mini Gingerbread Men and Skinny Choc Chip Cookies.
Priced at a very reasonable £2.99 per pot (or bag in the case of their scrummy
biscuits) these delicious treats allow you to give in to your cravings
without sabotaging your diet.
The new Choc-Nut pearls are so decadent it’s hard to believe
they are only 40 calories a pearl!
Made with a chocolate hazelnut sponge containing REAL
Nutella, they feature their signature tofu- chocolate frosting with a delicate sprinkle
of nuts.
Rich, satisfying and more-ish they are a very welcomed
addition to their range!
Another newbie that gets a big thumbs up are their Orange
Cheesecake Pearls.
These delicious, orangey sponges are filled with quark based
low fat cream cheese frosting and are just 35 calories each.
Tangy and fruity with a deliciously sweet and creamy filling
these bad boys are the nuts!
Also new to the collection are their Mocha Pearls.
An online exclusive, these mocha sponges are piped with
their dual dark and white chocolate tofu frosting and come in at 39 calories
each.
I’m not a big coffee fan myself but for those of you out
there who love a mocha then you’re going to want to get your hands on these!
Soft and aromatic, squidgy and moreish, I can see these
becoming very popular!
Now, I couldn’t pop a review up without giving a special
mention to my favourite Skinny Bakery Product to date.
Their Skinny Lemon Pearls are literally to die for.
Inspired by creamy and lemony cheesecake, these delicately
flavoured sponges feature a quark based low fat cream cheese frosting and are
40 calories a piece.
They are so beautifully flavoured and are the perfect
balance of zesty lemon and sweet, soft
cream cheese that’s it’s impossible to understand how they are so low in
calories.
Each pot contains 5 of the pearls so even if you were to
consume the entire pot (which I may or
may not have done on more than one occasion) you’ll still only be eating
around 200 calories.
If you’re on a healthy eating kick, are trying to lose
weight or simply love to try delicious treats then you need to take a look at
the fabulous offerings from The Skinny Bakery.
