Did you know that 90%
of the population in Europe alone carries the herpes simplex virus type 1?
I’m of course talking
about the cold sore virus.
Of this 90% however
only 30% of carriers find themselves blighted by the painful, sore blisters.
30% of the European
population is a lot guys.
If you’re in the
lucky 70% that don’t suffer with cold sores then here’s a little info on what
you do not have to suffer with.
Cold sores usually
begin with a tingling, itching or burning sensation around the lip area. Soon
after a small fluid filled blister appears before they eventually burst and
crust over, turning into a scab.
The sore should start
to heal within 10 days, but they are highly contagious and can be irritating or
painful while they heal.
Triggers can often be
due to a low immune system, illness and even stress.
While I’m personally
part of the fortunate 70%, I have friends and family members who suffer with
cold sores and aside from the pain element they all say that their presence
makes them feel self conscious and uncomfortable.
Most confess to using
topical creams to help treat the blister, but obviously these creams can only
help once the blister has appeared and sometimes, they don’t work at all.
Did you know that
there is actually a device that can not only help reduce the severity of
symptoms by up to 50% once a blister has formed but can actually prevent the
cold sore from developing if used early enough?
HERPOtherm® is a
chemical free, medical device that works by concentrating heat on the affected
area killing the cold sore virus beneath the skin before it emerges into a
blister.
This compact, fuss
free, clinically proven hand-held device has the ability to prevent blisters
and heal them in super quick time thanks to something called ‘local
thermotherapy’.
The heat of around
51°C has shown in tests that it can influence the secretion of histamine and
support the degradation of enzymes thereby reducing the inflammatory reaction.
The application of
concentrated heat (local hyperthermia) is
a physical mode of action based on a brief yet concentrated application of heat
to a small, limited area of skin.
Even a localised
pulse of heat can be sufficient to relieve common symptoms such as itching,
burning, tingling or tightness.
In a nutshell, what
this means is once the pen has heated up to the correct temperature and it’s
used on the area where you can feel a tingle, it uses the heat to destroy the
pathogens that cause the cold sore and if you get to it quick enough it may stop
the sore from forming at all.
Impressive huh!
So, how do you use
it?
Well, it’s actually
really simple to use and thanks to its compact, discreet design no one need
ever know what it is for!
The pen itself is not
much bigger in size than a lipstick, and like a lipstick the grey cover simply
slides off to reveal the black device which features a soft button on the
front, a little light above and a white ceramic contact on the top.
To use, simply place
the top of the device onto the affected area and gently press it onto the skin,
ensuring full contact.
Press the button on
the front, at which point a red light turns on and the ceramic contact surface heats
up to approximately 51°C.
This temperature is
maintained for three seconds before the HERPOtherm® then automatically switches
off and the red light disappears.
Ensuring firm, good
contact with the device and your skin is crucial as even a small air gap can
affect the ability of the device to conduct the necessary heat.
Now, you are not to exceed
a maximum number of 5 applications per hour on the same skin area, however for
persistent or reoccurring symptoms you may leave at least a 2 minute interval between
each application.
In terms of how it
feels, as you may imagine it feels like short, sharp burst of localised heat on
your skin.
As you can imagine,
51 degrees is fairly high, however aside from a couple of seconds of minimal discomfort,
the experience itself is quick, easy, fuss free and fool proof.
So here’s the thing,
as you may expect the device is more pricey than your traditional, topical
creams.
When I say pricey, I
mean it usually retails at £36, however for a limited time you can purchase the
HERPOtherm® for £31 from Amazon, but back to that in a moment.
Sure, cold sore
creams usually cost under a tenner and are unquestionably cheaper, however
cheaper does not mean better.
Cold sore creams
cannot prevent the onset of an attack and are usually packed full of chemicals.
The HERPOtherm® is
completely free from chemicals, is dermatologically tested and is even suitable
for pregnant women, allergy sufferers and children over the age of 12.
While the device
should only be used by one individual, it can be used time after time by simply
changing the battery, saving you money in the long run.
If you suffer with
cold sores there is absolutely no reason why you should have to resign yourself
to having to cope with the arrival of sore, unsightly sores when there is
another way.
The HERPOtherm® is
available now on Amazon Prime and until March 20th you can receive
an additional £5 off the retail price, making it just £31.
