Grenade Carb Killa Protein Bars

For some time now I’ve been following a low carb high protein ‘diet’ to help me lose my remaining baby weight and ultimately try to be healthier.

As time’s gone on I’ve found the programme and lifestyle change pretty easy to adapt to and I really enjoy the way it makes me feel now- less bloated, less hungry and I tend to have more energy.

However, the one thing I really struggle with and miss is sugar, sweet treats and chocolate.

These types of treats offer low nutritional value, are high in sugar and carbs and although they taste yummy, do nothing to supplement my diet. Boo.

I did some research and looked into perhaps switching my choccie bars to protein bars, but even these were loaded with carbs as their primary use is to refuel and stock up on protein and carbs following a workout.

Gah!

Finally, after extensive research I stumbled across a brand called Grenade and more specifically, a bar called Grenade Carb Killa.

These Carb Killa’s are a triple-layered, crunchy low carb high protein bar.

Now I’ll admit I was slightly off put by both the name and the packaging when I first saw them as they just screamed ‘For Men’ but I also know better than to judge a book by its cover so I found out a little more about them.

Each 60g bar contains 23g of protein, 214 calories and just 13.5g of carbs. If you’ve ever bought a regular protein bar before, you’ll know that they often contain substantially more calories than this and certainly a whole heap more carbs, often double or triple this amount.

Available in 2 flavours, Caramel Chaos or Cookies and Cream each bar is made up of triple layers, filled with crunchy 'crispies' and coated in milk chocolate.

I LOVE the Caramel Chaos bars. The top layer is a yummy, rich, gooey caramel which sits atop a soft, nougart filled base, covered in a thin layer of milk chocolate with crispy soy crispies.

Unlike many protein bars that can taste pretty damn awful if I’m honest, these Carb Killa’s taste uh-mazing.

The closest thing I can compare it to in taste and texture would be a Mars Bar, but this bad boy will give you the boost of protein that your body needs without the carbs or sugar!

Designed to be eaten wherever and whenever you don’t need to just be on a low carb diet to enjoy these, indeed if you are following any kind of weight management plan they can be really helpful at helping to curb those pesky sweet cravings.

You want one now don’t you? Well fear not because if you head over to the Grenade website now and enter my unique discount code SARAH25 you can get 25% off your Carb Killa’s or anything else from their website (excluding bundles or special offers).

You can thank me later guys!

Diet Chef: Week 2 Review

This week I've lost half a pound and I'm a bit down about it.

Apart from one evening last week when I was taken out for dinner, I've stuck to my diet chef diet religiously.

I'm not sure why I've only lost half a pound, especially after my fab 2lb loss last week, but I'm hoping it's just a blip.

Still, half a pound loss is better than half a pound gain, so I'm going I try and stay positive and plough on.

I'm out walking every day with Franky in his pram and while I know it's not high intensity cardio, every little helps, right?

This week I've really taken to the peanut flavour protein bars.

A bit like the soft Chocolate cookie, they don't taste like diet food.

Covered in a thin layer of chocolate, they are soft like nougat and have little crunchie soya pieces in them. These are within the "lunch" section of the diet chef menu but I rather like these for breakfast!

My favourite dinner of the week is the mushroom stroganoff. It's only 165 calories so I supplement it with 100cals of brown rice and a generous portion of veg!

It's creamy and rich tasting as well as being very tasty, and I'm never hungry after eating all this!

So my plan for this week is to try and get moving even more, when I can and carry on enjoying the food, and hopefully I'll have dropped some more lbs by next week!

Onwards and upwards!

Diet Chef: Week 1 Review

Well, one week into to my diet with Diet Chef and I have lost 2 pounds!

I am really surprised that I managed to lose weight so quickly and really so easily given that I've been eating three meals a day and a snack.

Don't get me wrong the portion sizes are not huge but then they’re never going to be when you're trying to lose weight, but what each meal lacks in quantity it really does make up for in quality.

My exciting delivery of food for the month!

Every meal I've had has been really delicious and although the portion sizes are quite small I found the bulking them out with lots of vegetables or fruit has helped.

Out of all the meals I've had so far these are my favourite;

For breakfast I'm really loving the soft chocolate cookie. It tastes so delicious it's really difficult to believe that this is a diet food! I never thought a cookie for breakfast would allow me to lose weight!

This pasta pot is so yum!

My favourite lunch at the moment is the pesto pasta pots. You get a really decent amount of pasta in the pots, they're ready in five minutes and so filling and tasty.

I'm a big fan of curry so I was over the moon to find out that I was able to indulge in a curry while on this diet. The Diet Chef chicken korma has now established itself as one of my favourite meals. I do cook some rice to have with it but I will measure it out to ensure that it still within my calorie allowance.

A months worth of food!

Two of my favourite snack so far are their cheese and onion crisp snacks and the Cranberry protein bar.  They're both really yummy and satisfy my cravings between meals, be they for sweet things or savoury.

Because it's been so hot I haven't had the chance to do as much exercise as I would've liked so I'm still surprised to have lost 2 pounds this week.

The first couple of days were hard because the portion sizes are relatively small compared to what I've been used to, but a week on I feel I'm coping much better.

My whole day's worth of meals planned!

I love that at the start of the day I can plan out what meals I'm going to have and it's just so easy.

They’re so quick to make as well it means my meal times don’t eat into any of my precious ‘me’ time.

So to summarise, one week in I’m feeling impressed, motivated and really pleased!

Bring on week two!
