Nominated in the 2018 Vogue Beauty Awards and now a Beauty
Magazine Awards with ASOS shortlister, this foundation which recently launched
in Superdrug is taking the UK beauty world by storm!
EX1 was created by makeup lover and biochemist Farah Naz
after she struggled to find a foundation that wasn’t too orange or too pink for
her olive skintone.
The brand is now famous for being the first and only make-up
brand for olive skin thanks to its completely unique blend of yellow/golden
undertones.
EX1 claims to have adorned the faces of some major heavyweight
celebs including the likes of Adele, Kylie Jenner, Britney Spears, Margot Robbie,
Kate Hudson and Reese Witherspoon to name but a few, so I was fairly sure it
would be ok for little old me!
I’ll be honest. First impressions were not great. I know you
shouldn’t judge a book by its cover or a product by its packaging, but I couldn’t
help but feel like it looked just a bit ‘blah’.
By that I mean it just didn’t look particularly exciting or
appealing. I appreciate its attempt at a minimalist and fuss free design, with
the main focus being on the fluid within the transparent tube complete with
on-trend rose gold detailing, it just didn’t really catch my eye.
I also understand that it is being marketed as a product
which is a bit techy thanks to it being created by an Imperial College
biochemist as well as being affordable, so perhaps this combination was a
factor within the design.
So, on to the product itself.
Housed within an airless, zero waste tube (which ok, ok is actually really cool),
the foundation offers medium coverage with a demi-matte finish.
Oil and fragrance free, it features a non-oxidising, vegan,
paraben and cruelty free formula in a range of 16 different shades.
While I may not look like your typical olive skinned gal, my
European genes have dictated that in the sun I tan easily and my skin has a
very yellow undertone which can make matching foundations a little tricky.
Given my paleness (its
winter!) I opted for the lightest shade, 1.
I really liked the lightweight texture of the fluid which satisfied
my oily skincare concerns immediately!
It offers a natural but decent coverage which is easily
buildable if you need a little more coverage in certain areas without looking
heavy or un-natural.
Its semi-matte finish keeps my oily t-zone under control
while offering a soft, radiant glow which creates the illusion of a flawless
complexion without the aid of make up!
The formula also matched my skin tone really well. I didn’t experience
any unfortunate orange patches or oxidation throughout the day which was great
and come evening my skin looked easily as fresh as it had done first thing in
the morning.
Priced at just £12.50 it is a really great product for such
a reasonable price point!
If you have olive skin and are on the look out for a new
