Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara

If I was shipwrecked on a desert island and had access to only one beauty product I would always choose Mascara.

Silly really, because let’s be honest, if you were stuck on a desert island, make up would be the least of your worries, but still!

A good mascara can open up your eyes, making them the focal point of your face and help you to look more awake even if you’ve been up all night partying (or in my case, been up with the kids).

One of my latest finds on my never ending hunt for fabulous Mascara’s is this bad boy from Lancôme.

Readers, meet Monsieur Big.

Packaged beautifully in a chick black tube with hot pink detailing, its name alludes to its ability to create big, fat lashes.

The wand features fairly large application bristles which are made of soft fibres that are designed to hug your lashes for a soft, smooth application.

The formula contains supple waxes and binding polymers which allow you to build length and (allegedly) create up to 12 times more volume than your naked lashes.

Sounds good eh?

The formula is marketed as ‘ultra black, volumising and longwearing’, but does it live up to its name?
In a word, yes.

Ordinarily I’m not a fan of fat, bushy bristles on mascara wands. I tend to find them difficult to use, making the mascara hard to apply due to lack of precision.

Not so with Monsieur Big. I actually really enjoyed the softness of the brush which felt wonderfully soft on my lashes and despite its size, I was able to manoeuvre the brush to ensure each lash was coated.

A little wriggling was required but the bristles did a fab job of evenly distributing the mascara while simultaneously separating my lashes.

After the first coat my lashes looked more defined.

It was the second coat that really did the job. It made a HUGE difference to my lashes in terms of volume, making them look lush and bountiful.

I had to work a little harder on the ends to create dramatic length but even this wasn’t that difficult.

In terms of longevity the mascara lasted all day without a hint of flakiness. Not only did it not-flake, but it didn’t transfer like some mascaras do over time to leave that really irritating black smudge underneath your bottom lashes.

It stayed exactly where I put it until it was time to remove it, at which point it melted away easily with my oil cleanser.

I love removing my make up just as much as I enjoy applying it and a real bug bear of mine is having to really work at getting my mascara off as it damages my lashes and irritates my eyes, so considering its staying power I was surprised as how easily and gently I could remove it.

It’s safe to say that Monsieur Big gets a big thumbs up from me, so if you’re looking for fat, thick, gorgeous lashes, give it a shot.

Lancôme’s Monsieur Big Mascara is available now and costs £21.

  1. I recently bought this mascara after Alana Davidson recommended it. I'm looking forward to seeing how it compares to my Armani one!
