Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette

Back in September you may remember seeing a post about a collaboration between cult beauty brand Urban Decay and pop star Gwen Stefani. (Read it here)

Anyway, the result of said collaboration is THIS UH-MAZING palette!

Unlike many celebs who merely put their face and name to a product Gwen has worked on every detail of this palette, from the case and packaging to the fabulous selection of shades.

So involved was she that the gorgeous, distinctive looking case was inspired by her love of black and white graphic prints and antique gold accents. Just like her it’s a very cool looking case!

Now, when it came to the shadows they were created are in the exact shades Gwen always wished she had in her collection and of the 15 in the palette, 12 are totally new.

The palette contains an eclectic mix of shades from subtle nudes and neutrals to vibrant jewels tones giving you the chance to mix up your look while offering a really versatile set of colours.

You’ve got a great selection of matte and shimmer too, allowing you to create the perfect look for any occasion and I have to say, the shimmery shades (which I’m not normally a huge fan of) are gorgeously soft and don’t leave you with a grainy, glittery finish.

Most of the shade names were handpicked by Gwen and are inspired by her songs and I have to say I loved the little touch of the inscription of “Magic’s In The Makeup” on the corner of the mirror.
So, in this palette you’ll find:

BLONDE (because Gwen is): Pale beige with a pink iridescent shift
BATHWATER (a No Doubt song): Pale beige with gold pearl
SKIMP (a favourite of Gwen’s from their original line): Pale nude satin
STEADY (after the No Doubt album “Rock Steady”): Medium rose with metallic gold shift
PUNK (the music genre Gwen got started in): Reddish brown matte
BABY (a homage to her fashion line L.A.M.B): Cool metallic rose
ANAHEIM (where Gwen grew up): Light taupe brown matte

STARK (another of Gwen’s favourite shades): Nude-pink matte
ZONE (after the song “Danger Zone”): Medium brown matte
SERIOUS (another of Gwen’s songs): Smoky grey with iridescent floating pearl
POP (like her current music): Pale coral with iridescent sparkle
HARAJUKU (one of her style influences): Metallic blue-pink with iridescent micro-shimmer
DANGER (because we like a little danger): Deep metallic royal blue with blue micro sparkle
1987 (the year No Doubt formed): Bright metallic yellow-gold
BLACKOUT (Gwen’s favourite black shade): Blackest black matte

I have to say she’s got great taste in shadows! I wasn’t sure what to expect from a palette from a pop star who is so eccentric but I’m very impressed.

My favourite combination of shades at the moment is SKIMP, PUNK and ANHEIM which create a gorgeous natural look but I also surprised myself by how much I liked the vibrant blue DANGER shade too- worn the right way it would look stunning!

The Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette (£40) is definitely going into my top 10 palette draw and if you like the look of it too you can get your mitts on it too you’ll need to head over to the Urban Decay website, pop in your email address and sign up to be one of the first to hear when it goes on sale!

Urban Decay Collaboration with Gwen Stefani

I am so excited about this news!

Urban Decay have announced their first ever celebrity designer collaboration and the person they’ve chosen couldn’t fit the brand better.

This limited-edition collection which will be available later this year is with none other than THE Gwen Stefani!

Gwen has apparently worked closely with the brand, guiding every detail of the collection, from the shades to the packaging. Chief creative officer and founding partner Wende Zomnir spent countless hours at Gwen’s house, talking makeup and working with her on every detail of this launch-from the packaging to the formulation to the shades. She carefully crafted each product with Gwen, creating the exact shades she always wished she had in her collection.

Gwen says;

“When Urban Decay came to me to collaborate, I immediately thought it was a perfect match. The way they’ve built their company is very similar to my aesthetic and approach. It’s all about creative self-expression, being strong and not being afraid to go outside of the box. Everyone in my life knows I absolutely love makeup. From a very young age, it was an artistic passion of mine. I actually used to be a makeup artist. I love wearing makeup and having so many ways to express myself through it. It’s my war paint. To be able to do a collaboration with people who get that concept and who are just as passionate about it is a dream come true. We’ve made and created products that I actually wear every single day. It’s the real thing. I’m obsessed with everything we’ve done, and I can’t wait to share it.”

I can’t wait either!

Stay tuned for further details nearer the launch!
